Agriculture Laborer – Farm Hand ( 6-month Contract)

Department:                Tsuut’ina Lands Administration (Buffalo Paddocks/Agricultural Program)

Reports To:                Buffalo Paddocks/Agricultural Manager

JOB SUMMARY

Assisting the Manager in the upkeeping of the Buffalo Paddocks ranch, the Nation Fields and structural buildings as well as fences, and corral system that is on-site, and off-site. Must assist with maintaining the health, safety and care of the Buffalo herd; which includes feeding, inspecting, repairing and reporting any concerns to the manager. Assisting in the cleaning and upkeeping of all equipment and machinery used on and off-site. As well as taking part in farming skills and the labor work required for hauling/baling/cutting, loading and moving bales for Nation Members and the Paddocks, when required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting in the Nation’s fields by inspecting, monitoring, repairing and reporting the fence lines from livestock trying to feed on it
  • Assisting in loading, taking part in the field/crop work, as well as hauling bales to the Buffalo Paddocks during the season, and when necessary
  • Must drive vehicles and equipment: trucks, tractors, side-by-side,
  • Clean & maintain equipment, vehicles as well as tools, as necessary
  • Assisting in cutting and baling hay
  • Inspect, repair and maintain fence lines, buildings, and corral systems daily
  • Assisting in the different projects for the Agriculture Program and Paddocks; as deemed necessary
  • Assisting both the Agricultural Program and Buffalo Paddocks when it comes to the herd and both the programs including farming; as well as prepping for winter
  • Must be willing to learn about farming skills, fencing,
  • Must be willing to take updated training for certifications, equipment,
  • Must be willing to work long hours, and be readily available on evenings and weekends; as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with carpentry, wood working skills is required
  • Heavy duty equipment experience is an asset, as you will be working with tractors
  • Must be a self-starter, and have the ability to work well in a team and alone
  • Must have knowledge of Tsuut’ina Nation culture and language
  • Must be willing to learn new skills related to farming, ranch handling,
  • Must have a valid Alberta Driver’s License and must have own reliable transportation
  • Must have working cellphone
  • Must be willing to sign an Oath of Confidentiality
  • Must provide a current and clean Criminal Record Check
