The Tsuut’ina Culture Instructor is seen as a role model of the community and must exemplify the position.  They are to be timely, appropriately dressed and must exercise good communication skills.  The Tsuut’ina Culture Instructor will be subject to evaluation by the Tsuut’ina Curriculum Developer and/or Principal.  The Tsuut’ina Culture Instructor will create a comprehensive cultural program for all the schools.  The goal of the program is to assist students in all aspects of their cultural knowledge, understanding and development, in which they may become responsible happy citizens.


  • Incorporates the advice, recommendations, and language of Tsuut’ina Elders and Tsuut’ina Community members in the organization of the teachings.
  • Provides a historical context for the implementation and instruction of Tsuut’ina cultural and language activities such as traditional experiences, language, songs, art and crafts.
  • Maintains a positive and productive learning environment in the classroom. Provides disciplinary intervention as necessary. Assists in supervision of students in areas as required. Remains alert to all situations that may represent a risk to students.
  • Create projects designed to enhance Tsuut’ina teachings and knowledge.
  • Actively incorporate use of the Tsuut’ina language in activities
  • Maintain attendance records and perform other administrative duties as needed.
  • Participate and assist cultural activities planned both indoor and outdoor.
  • Provide cultural knowledge and assist in district-wide initiatives and Professional Learning workshops.
  • Provide professional learning leadership to district staff, students, parents/guardians in areas related to culture through the incorporation of traditions, realities and past practices of Tsuut’ina people.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to provide ongoing cultural support to schools. Carry out the planning, execution, and evaluation of Tsuut’ina cultural activities within the Tsuut’ina school district
  • Collaborate with various teaching professionals and community members for the planning of Tsuut’ina cultural activities and events
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with various cultural leaders and community members
  • Actively promote and incorporate the use of the Tsuut’ina Language in all activities Facilitation of cultural activities within the Tsuut’ina Education District


  • Tsuut’ina Nation Member.
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience delivering programs to young students/adolescents.
  • Experience working with youth in music and arts.
  • Energetic (the position involves leading students all day).
  • Own a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license (class 4 license preferred).


  • Must be very knowledgeable of drumming, singing and dancing history.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal culture, languages and traditional experiences and protocol.
  • Demonstrated competencies in classroom management.
  • Demonstrated communication skills.
  • Proven success in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member in cooperation with other school personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish trust and rapport with students.
  • Willingness to learn and instruct new skills in the area of cultural programming.
  • Personal suitability.


  • Depending on your position – a Vulnerable Sector check may be required upon application from all provinces, states or countries lived in for the last four years. Vulnerable Sector checks must be completed within the past month.
