Diyí dzínisà Gújá Nágúdīgòy (Good morning),
Please be advised that a YELLOW weather notification has been issued for Alberta for Wednesday, April 15th to Friday, April 17, 2026.
An area of heavy snow will move through southern Alberta starting Wednesday night, persisting through the day Thursday, and easing Thursday night. Amounts of 10 – 25 cm are forecast for southern regions, including Calgary. Transportation disruption is expected on Thursday along portions of Highways 1, 2, 9, and the surrounding areas.
There is significant uncertainty in the total forecast snowfall amounts and their locations. Snowfall along the southern Foothills is more certain, associated with some brief upslope enhancement. A west-to-east band extending off the terrain towards the SK border will produce higher snowfall totals as well, but how widespread and how high the amounts will be (upwards of 25 cm), there is little agreement in model guidance.
Keep up to date with SWOs and local forecasts at www.weather.gc.ca leading up to the event.
Conditions will improve across the province by early Friday morning. Temperatures will stay below seasonal across the province through the end of the week.
