JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Casework Supervisor, the TTNCFSS Generalist is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of children in a healthy and culturally appropriate environment. The Generalist works collaboratively with families to improve their overall quality of life while supporting the preservation of Tsuut’ina language and culture. This role incorporates the Casework Practice Model, Practice Standards, and the Signs of Safety framework in daily practice.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct ongoing assessments of children, youth at risk, and families to inform and develop case plans, incorporating parental capacity, child development, and environmental factors.
- Work directly with families to help them understand their circumstances and collaboratively address the issues leading to child intervention.
- Engage, collaborate, and coordinate with families, Assessors, community agencies, service providers, and natural supports to develop concurrent case plans and provide appropriate services.
- Manage case planning and the delivery of services and interventions to meet the identified needs of children, youth, and families within specified timeframes.
- Maintain regular consultation with the Casework Supervisor at critical decision points, while exercising professional independence and providing justification for case decisions and recommendations.
- Apply knowledge of intergenerational trauma and trauma-informed, integrative, and culturally appropriate approaches when supporting Indigenous families.
- Assess safety and risk factors and demonstrate the ability to work with non-voluntary clients and in high-stress family situations.
- Coordinate and participate in case conferences and family meetings.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with external stakeholders, including CFSA’s, DFNA’s, hospitals, RCMP, Prevention Services, education and health programs, and other community-based support services.
- Prepare for and attend court as required.
- Participate in a 24-hour on-call rotation as assigned.
- Maintain accurate and timely case documentation and data entry in CICIO and ensure all file standards are met.
- Participate in and support community collaboration events and initiatives.
- Demonstrate effective time management, punctuality, and the ability to prioritize workload with minimal supervision.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Tsuut’ina Nation Human Resources Policies and Procedures, Nation By-laws and Regulations, and cultural protocols and traditions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Casework Supervisor, Team Lead, or Director.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Desired Education, Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) is required.
- Master of Social Work (MSW) is an asset.
- Delegation Certification Training is required.
- Registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers is an asset.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation directly related to assessment and casework practice.
- Direct experience working with children and families in a related capacity.
- Personal Attributes:
- Strong assessment skills, and the ability to evaluate family functioning, needs, risks, and strengths.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as required.
- General Employment Requirements:
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License, proof of insurance and registration, and reliable transportation.
- Criminal Record Check, and Child Intervention Check.
- Oath of Confidentiality.
