JOB SUMMARY:

The Mental Health Liaison provides leadership, consultation, and education to support mental health and wellness services within the Tsuut’ina community. Working under the direction of the Director of Health and Wellness Services, the role supports program development, evaluation, and the delivery of trauma-informed mental health and addiction-related initiatives. The position collaborates with internal and external partners, facilitates education sessions and community-based learning opportunities, and contributes to the development of best-practice service models and systems. The Mental Health Liaison plays a key role in community engagement, stakeholder collaboration, and service coordination, including consultation on client case management and support during mental health crises as required. This role requires specialized knowledge of mental health and addictions across the lifespan and a strong commitment to relationship-building, innovation, and continuous service improvement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Program Development and Implementation– evaluate programs and services against established outcomes and recommend improvements to enhance service delivery. Facilitate support groups for Tsuut’ina citizens, with a focus on grief and loss, trauma, and addictions. Facilitate workshops and lunch-and-learn sessions, and collaborate with other Tsuut’ina Nation programs to support the development of a trauma-informed workplace.
  • Relationship Management– build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external Nation programs. Network with external agencies, organizations, and stakeholders to establish partnerships that strengthen Health and Wellness programs and services. Strengthen linkages with other programs and services to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive continuum of care for Nation members. Present information in public forums, in collaboration with the Addiction Counsellor, to engage stakeholders and promote awareness of mental health, wellness, and addiction prevention.
  • Administrative Activities– participate in regular program and related meetings as required. Prepare and submit all required program reports and evaluations. Communicate and collaborate regularly with the Associate Director of Mental Health. Provide overall direction and support to program coordinators and staff, including oversight of training, education, and professional development related to mental health and wellness.
  • Community Engagement– maintain a strong presence at community events to build rapport and demonstrate support for Nation citizens and residents. Attend community and organizational events with the Director of Health & Wellness Services or Associate Directors of Health and Mental Health as required. Assist in planning and coordinating community events in collaboration with other Health and Wellness Services teams.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Health and Wellness Services or Associate Director of Health.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Desired Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
    • Degree or higher in Business Administration, Health Services, Public Health Administration, or a related field.
    • Extensive knowledge of mental health and addictions.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of First Nations peoples, values, and culture.
    • Knowledge and experience in financial management.
    • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an administrative capacity with a strong mental health focus; preference given to licensed mental health clinicians from psychology or clinical social work.
    • Experience in the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic program plans, while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
    • Experience developing and managing effective databases.
    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including public speaking, networking, and fundraising.

  • General Employment Requirements:
