JOB SUMMARY:
The Wellness Counsellor Facilitator delivers trauma-informed, culturally grounded programming that supports healing, recovery, and wellness for First Nations clients. This role provides group-based and individual support within a multidisciplinary team and incorporates culturally relevant approaches that acknowledge the impacts of trauma, substance use, and intergenerational harm. The position supports client safety, professional boundaries, and access to resources and referrals, while contributing to a respectful, organized, and supportive program environment. Candidates with lived experience, including those engaged in recovery, are welcomed, and mentorship opportunities may be available for First Nations candidates with relevant backgrounds.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Program Delivery and Client Support– deliver trauma-informed, culturally responsive programming that is client-focused and aligned with program models. Support clients by assisting with access to resources, referrals, and additional supports as appropriate. Maintain self-awareness and professional boundaries when working with clients. Support a safe, respectful, and organized program environment.
- Safety, Reporting and Professional Practice– monitor and report behavioral concerns to the Program Director. Report concerns related to client self-harm or harm to others and complete incident reports as required. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards at all times.
- Team Collaboration and Participation– participate in staff meetings, staff development workshops, and training as required. Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support client care and program delivery.
- Administrative and Program Support– assist with general program duties, including preparing refreshments, printing, filing, sorting materials, and maintaining cleanliness of program and classroom spaces. Support day-to-day program operations as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Desired Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Professional certification from an alcohol and drug counsellor training program; Matrix and 12-Step Wellbriety training is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in residential treatment or related counselling roles, with experience supporting First Nations clients in substance use and mental health programs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of First Nations peoples’ customs, culture, and the impacts of trauma and cultural oppression.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed practices and culturally responsive care.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
