JOB SUMMARY:

The Youth Wellness Worker supports children and youth through collaborative, prevention-focused mental health and wellness initiatives within the Tsuut’ina community. Working closely with internal Wellness Program teams and external partners, this role delivers group programming, crisis support, and service navigation tailored to the needs of youth and families. The position emphasizes building strong, trusting relationships through school-based involvement, community engagement, and culturally grounded programming that incorporates Tsuut’ina language, culture, and land-based teachings under the guidance of Elders and Knowledge Keepers. The Wellness Worker participates in meetings, professional development, and community initiatives, and may support evening, weekend, and overnight programming based on community needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Program Delivery and Community Engagement– facilitate group programming that meets the needs of parents, children, and youth within the community. Be highly visible and actively engage in community events and initiatives to build rapport and trusting relationships with children and youth. Be actively involved in Manyhorses, Big Belly, and Chilla Schools to provide support as required. Participate in program, community, and interdepartmental meetings, committees, and working groups as assigned.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships– build and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues and strong partnerships with Tsuut’ina Health Centre, Tosguna, Child and Family Services, Victim Services, and other stakeholders to support youth in crisis. Work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Cultural Programming and Prevention Initiatives– develop and deliver innovative and creative prevention initiatives for children and youth. Incorporate Tsuut’ina culture, language, and land-based teachings into programming under the guidance of Tsuut’ina Elders and Knowledge Keepers. Participate in overnight land-based initiatives as required.
  • Professional Practice and Development– participate in ongoing professional development and supervision related to mental health support and addiction prevention for youth. Demonstrate the ability to set workload priorities, adapt to changing or unexpected situations, problem-solve, and manage conflict effectively.
  • Maintain the physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or delegated by leadership within Tsuut’ina Health and Wellness Services.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Desired Education, Knowledge and Experience:
    • High School Diploma or GED (CAEC).
    • Post-Secondary Education in Community Social Services is an asset.
    • A minimum of one (1) year of recent related work experience, with an emphasis on mental health, addictions, homelessness, and social services.
    • Mental Health First Aid certification.
    • ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).
    • Critical Incident Debrief Training.
    • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
    • Naloxone certification.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with community members.
    • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills, demonstrating tact, cooperation, and persistence.
  • General Employment Requirements:
    • Valid Driver’s License, and reliable transportation.
    • Oath of Confidentiality.
    • Criminal Record Check, and Vulnerable Sector Check.
