JOB SUMMARY

The Youth Worker is a vital member of the Youth Program team. As such, the successful application will be required to demonstrate professionalism, interpersonal skills, and deal with Tsuut’ina Nation Youth in a positive and caring manner. The Youth Worker reports directly to the Youth Coordinator. Their role is to always provide awareness and safety for youth. They will assist in the development and implementation of informed lessons, activities and field trips that support and encourage social, cultural, and academic development in youth, while incorporating community involvement and positive healthy relationships.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the creation and delivery of lesson plans and activities that are both culturally sensitive, engaging, and create a positive attitude.
  • Assess the interests and needs of youth.
  • Maintain accurate statistics and provide information reports to the Youth Coordinator.
  • Assist and participate in programs with students, volunteers, and staff.
  • Lead and supervise students and volunteers on field trips and community events.
  • Ensure all program participants, guests, outside facilitators, and Elders are treated with respect and integrity.
  • Supervise students by always providing safety and hands-on teaching.
  • The ability to model healthy and solid leadership skills.
  • Liaise with youth agencies, service providers and schools.
  • Foster a sense of community and peer support.
  • Ensure the wellbeing of all students by creating and maintaining a safe and non-discriminatory environment.
  • Be able to work modified hours and schedules to accommodate evenings and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Desired Education, Certificates and Experience:
    • High School Diploma or GED (CAEC).
    • Previous work experience with children and youth is an asset.
    • Current First-Aid certificate.

  • General Employment Requirements:
    • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
    • Clean Intervention Record, Criminal Record Check, and a Vulnerable Sector Check.
    • Oath of Confidentiality.
